For singer-songwriter David Archuleta, Pasadena holds great significance. At The Langham in Pasadena, 14 years ago, Archuleta performed John Mayer’s “Waiting on the World to Change” and won his golden ticket to “American Idol.”

He is now making his way back to the City of Roses to participate in the Honda-sponsored 2024 Rose Parade Opening Spectacular alongside Rush Davis, Michelle Williams, Destiny’s Child, and Cassadee Pope, aka “The Voice.”

They will alternate performances on a platform close to Honda’s “Keep Dreaming” float. He will perform a cover of “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol, according to Archuleta.

Honda is the presenting sponsor of the Rose Parade for the 14th year running in 2024.

The ensemble will bring Archuleta back to his happy 2023. According to him, Archuleta had “really wonderful growth” in 2023. He attempted to reconcile his sexuality and faith before leaving the Church of Latter-day Saints in June.

A new album he is finishing up will make many of the other changes clear. He hinted that “other types of writing” and other projects would be revealed in the new year.

David Archuleta’s relationships with his former fellow Mormons have changed since coming out as queer in 2021 and leaving the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints last year.

David’s Road to Acceptance

During the star dedication ceremony for the late George Michael at Project Angel Food in Los Angeles, the American Idol alumnus and singer talked about accepting who he really is, despite what his previous community had taught him.

He aspires to be as successful as the incredibly proud Wham! performer, who was recognized by Project Angel Food for 25 years of volunteer work at the nonprofit.

Additionally, the two have a unique bond because Michael competed on Idol season 7, where Archuleta placed second.

Though he has not tried to cut off all communication with his former Mormon friends, he has discovered that they have not exactly kept accepting him ever since he left the church and came out as gay.

American pop singer David James Archuleta’s birthday is on December 28, 1990. He won the Utah Talent Competition’s children’s division when he was ten years old, which led to more singing appearances on television.

On the second season of Star Search, dubbed “Star Search 2,” at the age of twelve, he won the title of Junior Vocal Champion. He placed second in the seventh season of American Idol in 2008.

He released “Crush,” the lead single from his self-titled debut album, in August 2008.

Three months later, the album was released, and it went on to sell over 750,000 copies in the US and over 900,000 copies worldwide, debuting at number two on the Billboard 200 chart.

His father is of German, Danish, Irish, and Spanish ancestry, while his mother is a native of Honduras. According to Archuleta, his last name is Basque. Before making his American Idol appearance, he attended Murray High School.
